31 Microcredit members received livelihood assistance of 730,000 rupees ($ 7300 Canadian) on 5th of February, 2010 of which the 1st loan is 415,000 rupees ($4150 Canadian), 2nd loan is 215,000 rupees ($ 2150 Canadian), and 3rd loan 100,000 rupees ($ 1000 Canadian).

First Loan Beneficiaries.
Arasaretnam Prema of Veeramunai was effected by the war in Srilanka. She is from a low income family and has a small child. She joined in our scheme and borrowed a first loan of 20,000 rupees ($200 Canadian) to do Poultry Farming on a small scale to develop her livelihood.

Second Loan Beneficiaries.
A lady who received a 2nd loan, Mrs. Karunaretnam Chanthira had a sea fishing business. She had sea boat, net, and other equipment for fishing. It was completely washed away by the tsunami disaster in 2004. She was living in IDP camp and was resettled recently. She joined in our Microcredit scheme and received first loan of small amount of money and restarted the same business. She settled the loan from the income she received. Now she is taking second loan of the double amount she had taken earlier to develop her business.

Third Loan Beneficiaries.

Thambipillai Tharmaretnam from Pandiruppu was in the security service Kalmunai. He lost his job due to war and he had no income to run his family of four children. He joined our scheme and took a loan and opened a small retail shop. He resettled and develops his business from that income and the second loan he received. He developed his business to do wholesale business. And now he is taking a third loan to develop more.
